Comparative Methods for the Pore Size Distribution of Woven and Metal Filter Media
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper investigates the permeability of several multi-layered, woven filter media using air, water and bubble point methods. Estimated filter efficiencies from the bubble point measurements were then compared to a new sonic challenge test method where precision microspheres are fluidised through the pores. Inconsistencies in the bubble point filter efficiencies were found to be dependent on the openness or permeability of the weave. The filter efficiency of a non woven metal filter medium was then related to the pore size distribution measured by microscopy.

Stochastic reconstruction of carbon fiber paper gas diffusion layers of PEFCs: A comparative study
A 3D microstructure of the non-woven gas diffusion layers (GDLs) of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) is reconstructed using a stochastic method. For a commercial GDL, due to the planar orientation of the fibers in the GDL, 2D SEM image of the GDL surface is used to estimate the orientation of the carbon fibers in the domain. Two more microstructures with different fiber orientations are g...

Filter is one of the main components of embankment dams. By a simple but effective performance, filter protects the dam against erosion and soil scouring in impervious core caused by leakage (piping) and makes it safe. Interaction between filter and erodible base soil is a complex phenomenon which is dependent upon several factors, and has challenged researchers for better understanding the fil...

Several methodologies published in the literature can be used to construct realistic pore networks for simple rocks, whereas in complex pore geometry formations, as formed in tight reservoirs, such a construction still remains a challenge. A basic understanding of pore structure and topology is essential to overcome the challenges associated with the pore scale modeling of tight porous media. A...
